Paper remains very popular among Family Practice Offices because it's convenient, reliable, and relatively cheap. Electronic Medical Records systems on the other hand are EXPENSIVE, they're vulnerable to hackers, viruses, power outages and "crashes". They have high installation costs and learning curves and then they require frequent, regular maintenance including costly upgrades. EMR's just aren't "there" yet for most Family Practice offices, especially the smaller ones. How can you justify paying up to $20K to $30K PER PHYSICIAN for an EMR (in startup costs alone!) when you can use this simple, reliable, thorough documentation system for (literally) a tiny fraction of their cost? In this economy you need a system that improves profitability in a matter of DAYS, not YEARS!

We thought we were getting a good value with dictation. However, the doctor often stayed late to dictate. We paid for BOTH transcription AND for a filing clerk to place the transcription onto the charts. Sometimes the documentation was placed on the wrong chart or was even lost. So dictation cost us between $400 and $1800 per month and it really wasn't an efficient way to keep medical records. Records 1-2-3 not only gave us the good documentation we were longing for, it also helped to organize our office. That alone saved us much lost time and money. All Family Practice doctors really need to know about Records 1-2-3!
